Our Debate Curriculum is designed to introduce middle school students to the fundamentals of legal argumentation, critical thinking, and public speaking through engaging, interactive virtual classes. Students will analyze, debate, and defend positions on real-world legal cases, developing essential skills in reasoning, persuasion, and legal interpretation.
Social media platforms allow us to connect and share our thoughts, but who decides what can and cannot be posted? We’ll debate:
✅Should social media companies have the power to remove harmful content?
✅Are privacy rights protected online?
✅How far should schools go in monitoring students’ social media use?
Laws are often created to reflect what society believes is right and wrong. But sometimes, applying laws can lead to tough decisions. You’ll consider:
✅Should laws always reflect moral values?
✅How do judges interpret laws when the intent is unclear?
✅Can following the letter of the law sometimes lead to unfair results?
The U.S. Constitution protects our basic rights, but debates arise over how those rights should be applied. You’ll explore questions like:
✅When can the government limit free speech?
✅Should students have the same rights as adults in school?
✅How do courts decide when laws are unconstitutional?
Students will develop their analytical thinking by responding to challenging legal questions and defending their viewpoints
Hands-on practice with legal cases/scenarios, allowing students to take on roles as attorneys, judges, and witnesses.
Work in teams to build arguments, counter opposing viewpoints, and strengthen legal reasoning skills.
